garden snake
everything must go
rockport, maine 2021

performed over the course of two hours as part of everything must go, an interdisciplinary show hosted by the staycation collective, snake combined projected hand drawn animation with interpretive embodied dance.

in conversation with timeless, cross cultural serpentine mythologies, the animated snake references death, rebirth, fertility and transformation. tangling, untangling, and swallowing its own tail, it most notably emulates the ouroboros symbol, first found in an ancient egyptian funerary text.

posing as both dance partner and inner demon, the animated snake illustrates the ways in which our deepest desires mask themselves as shame and how, often times, it is in the fight against them that true embodiment of them arises.

in an effort to alchemize heartbreak into healing, snake asks, do you have to feel the weight of one in order to feel the other? what has died, what has germinated, and are they the same thing?
